Intervention services serve many different helpful purposes. From prescription drug to abuse of Internet pornography, there are various addictions that can plague individuals nowadays. More serious addictions to chemical substances are dangerous and the problems need to be addressed as soon as possible. In 1989, the captain of the Exxon Valdez was under the influence of alcohol and caused one of the greatest environmental disasters in history. The captain was noted for having problems with alcohol in the past. His employers had knowledge of this information and did not do enough to get him an alcoholism intervention or help that he needed. Their negligent behavior led to the loss of wildlife and its terrible aftermath can still be seen today.
