Addiction Therapy: The Solution or The Problem?

How Can Addiction Therapy Be Harmful?
Addiction therapy can sometimes be a controversial topic, especially when it involves teens. This shocking story is one example of how “Matt” turned into a habitual drinker and cocaine user after a stint in rehab. As a teen, Matt used pot regularly but so did his parents. After Matt’s grades began to slip, his parents placed him in an inpatient program for teen addicts. Matt claims that rehab did not help him but only solidified his belief that he was addict. During group therapy sessions, the teens drugged swapped drug stories about different substances to try when they were released.

Addiction Treatment Center for Troubled Teens
After being admitted to the addiction treatment center, Matt dabbled in LSD, cocaine and began to drank heavily. Isn’t rehab meant to help teens? Some experts believe that young teens are impressionable and that this is a negative outcome of the exposure that they get to different drugs. Maybe it is too easy to blame the solution when home life also matters. Obviously, Matt’s parents did not provide him with the right environment and ignored his drug use for so long. As role models, Matt didn’t see his drug use as a problem because his parents were also doing it.

A Drug Addiction Treatment Resolution
Ultimately, the article shows that troubled teens benefit tremendously from group therapy AND family therapy. Parents cannot just drop off their kids in rehab and expect that everything is ok. Like in Matt’s case, we can see what happens when parents aren’t involved in their kid’s life. What do you think? Is drug addiction treatment helpful or harmful when it comes to teen users. What about adult addicts?

Addiction Treatment for a Drunken Sheriff Who Injures Elderly Woman

Police Officers Living Sober
Tragically, it is far too often that we hear about police officers who dabble in drug use. Aren’t they supposed to be living sober to protect public safety? Yesterday, an Orange County sheriff was arrested for driving under the influence after hitting a 78 year old woman. IN addition to causing the elderly woman harm, Allan James Waters has also been charged with selling drugs. The report shows that fellow deputies stopped Waters after he hit another vehicle.

Prescription Drugs and Addiction Treatment
We’re not sure where addiction treatment stands for Waters, but that should be his priority. The trouble began for Waters as other motorists reported his reckless driving. After several near hits with other vehicles, Waters crashed into a car where the 78 year old woman was a passenger. She sustained back injuries and later underwent surgery. Imagine the excruciating pain that she went through! It’s shocking how fellow deputies could release Waters and allow him to drive after his first accident that day. Authorities are of course looking into reasoning as to why these police officers did not follow the standard routine when they stopped Waters. They are under the impression that the officers knew that Waters was a fellow officer.

Addiction Treatment Center for Officers
Looks like Waters should land himself in an addiction treatment center before he harms anybody else. Authorities believe that Waters was on his way from a drug exchange. Reports detail how Waters met an acquaintance to trade Opana and OxyContin for money and coke. The bizarre details don’t end as Waters is accused of giving the friend a white substance that was NOT cocaine. It’s interesting what the OC sheriff’s department will have to say about this one.

Addiction Treatment Center Can Give Help

Persons who find themselves in the grips of substance use, abuse, or dependency may not be willing to admit they have a problem at first, let alone decide that they want to change their lifestyle. Substance abusers have a tendency towards denial; they are so wrapped up in their substance abuse that they cannot or choose not to face the fact that they have a problem. If a person with a substance abuse problem does ultimately decide that they want to make a change, he or she should seek some kind of help in ending their problem. An addiction treatment center can offer this kind of help.

An addiction treatment center is a place where people who are struggling with drug or alcohol use, abuse, or dependency can go to learn how to change their lives. These facilities offer many different services. Most of these services are aimed specifically at the issues that are most closely related to substance abuse, such as the practical issue of how to stop using an addictive substance.

Other services that are more tangentially related to substance abuse are also usually offered at an addiction treatment center. For example, family counseling may be available to help substance abusers reconnect with their family members, and to build the trust necessary to establish healthier relationships. Job training may also be available for those substance abusers who are struggling to keep up at work, and for those who may even have lost their jobs as a result of their substance abuse issues. Basic living skills may also be taught to those who have slipped so far into substance abuse that they were no longer taking care of their most essential needs, such as providing themselves with nutritious food and appropriate housing.

An addiction treatment center is often the best place an individual can go to restart a life that has been derailed by drug or alcohol use, abuse, or dependency. These facilities, with their myriad services, professional staffs, and encouraging atmospheres, are ideal places for substance abusers to go to in order to starting healing themselves. An addiction treatment center can make the difference between substance abuse and sobriety.

When to Attend an Addiction Treatment Center

A person suffering from the negative effects of drug or alcohol use is often unable to see that they have a problem. They are usually so caught up in the cycle of use, abuse, and dependency that they don’t have any perspective on their situation. If they are able to break out enough to realize that they have a problem and decide that they want to do something about it, they can often benefit greatly from outside help. An addiction treatment center is the ideal place for a person trying to end a life of substance use or abuse to go for guidance and support.

The addiction treatment center model is based on the idea that alcohol or drug use, abuse, or dependency is a medical problem, and can be cured if properly diagnosed and properly treated. Because there are so many different ways that alcohol or drug abuse can manifest themselves, it is important to recognize the specific needs of the individual who is suffering from that abuse. This can greatly improve the chances of successful results.

Once the problem of alcohol or drug abuse has been identified and a therapeutic regime has been established by the addiction treatment center, it is up to the individual with the alcohol or drug abuse problem to follow through with the agreed upon therapy. While the many and different therapies available today can be very effective, it is important for the individual to be an active participant in their recovery. Just as you cannot learn to drive by simply reading a manual, you cannot learn to be sober without “getting behind the wheel” and doing it on your own.

The combination of willingness on the part of the former drug or alcohol abuser and help from an addiction treatment center can lead to great and lasting results. A person who wants to change his or her life for the better and who is willing to do the work necessary to achieve that change can reach his or her goal. An addiction treatment center can be an important means of bridging the gap between good intentions and good results.

Oxycontin Treatment At An Addiction Treatment Center

Oxycontin Treatment Is Possible

Oxycontin is a powerful pain medication that has been classified as a controlled substance by the Drug Enforcement Administration. A  drug only receives this distinction if it is ruled to have a high potential for abuse or addiction. It is thought that over a million individuals in the United States abuse Oxycontin for non-medical reasons. Like all prescription drug abuse, it is extremely hard to decide whether a person is abusing these drugs, especially if they have a legitimate pain problem. Oxycontin is an opioid that is extremely useful in relieving pain. Doctors prescribe their patients Oxycontin to deal with incidents such as major surgeries, broken bones and accidents. People with chronic pain such as back or neck pain are also prescribed Oxycontin to help reduce their suffering so they can function more normally.  Oxycontin treatment becomes necessary when individuals take the medication in excess or without a prescription.

When To Seek Addiction Treatment

The problem with Oxycontin and other drugs like it is that they have a very high potential for abuse and addiction. Most controlled substances have the potential for psychological addiction, however some painkillers also have extremely high rates of physical addiction, meaning that a person’s body comes to rely upon a drug such as Oxycontin to function normally. The brain begins to think that the chemicals contained in Oxycontin are vital to its functioning and the response it produces to not having enough of the drug is called a craving. Once a person has become addicted to a drug, their dependence on it is hard to manage. The cravings are so powerful that taking more of the drug begins to be second nature; something that the person has to do in order to survive. Once it becomes apparent that the addicted individual can’t wean themselves off the drug on their own it is time to consider addiction treatment.

An Addiction Treatment Center Is The Place To Go For Oxycontin Help

If taken properly, Oxycontin, like other pain relief-type drugs can provide up to 12 hours of relief from pain, however many people like to feel the euphoria they get when they take it for the first time, and so they find other methods by which to take the drug. These methods include snorting, chewing and injecting the drug as a means to make the drug take effect faster and more powerfully. Oxycontin addiction has received a great deal of publicity in the last few years, and addiction treatment centers to affect treatment have created rehabilitation plans that deal with Oxycontin addiction. Though prescription drug addiction is similar to other types of illicit drug addiction, there are factors that need special attention. For this reason, it is recommended that you find an addiction treatment center that has a program that specializes in the treatment of Oxycontin addiction.

Drug Alcohol Treatment For Teen Marijuana Use Is Available

Marijuana comes from the plant Cannabis sativa and is today the most commonly abused drug in the United States by teenagers and individuals too young to legally purchase alcohol. The “high” felt when using marijuana comes from the chemical THC. The abuse of marijuana can result in short-term memory loss, loss of problem solving and comprehensive thinking skills and the loss of coordination and perception problems. Research has shown that marijuana is involved in one third of all impaired driving accidents among teenage drivers and can also lead to anxiety and panic attacks. Marijuana is generally smoked to achieve the high; however it may be eaten as well. Though many smokers don’t recognize the risks associated with marijuana, it contains more cancer causing chemicals than cigarette tobacco and can lead to the early onset of respiratory problems. It should be considered vital for young people to seek drug alcohol treatment before problems occur that can affect individual’s lives permanently.

Addiction Treatment Should Be The Goal

Individuals who use marijuana regularly in an addictive manner sooner or later find out they are unable to show up for anything else in their lives. People, relationships, friends, family and other activities that were once important to them lose meaning because marijuana has taken control. This may not be immediately noticeable, but after significant time these behaviors may become chronic. There are also long-term marijuana effects that can include a higher inclination to getting cancer, problems with lung and airway functioning, as well as damage to the immune system. Because these symptoms take so long to materialize many people tend to think that they are a myth. People who begin using marijuana at a young age are often more prone to trying harder drugs including cocaine, crystal methamphetamine and heroin. In these cases drug addiction can take over a person’s live in an extremely short period of time.  Addiction treatment should be the goal right away once this become apparent.

Find An Addiction Treatment Center

Marijuana is considered an addictive drug because over extended periods of time people are unable to stop using on their own. It is also considered addictive because people who use it are unable to control their urges and cravings and find that at any given time they are subject to their cravings. An addiction treatment center is where to go to seek help for a marijuana addiction disorder.

Each year over 100,000 people seek substance abuse treatment for marijuana addiction. Seeking treatment for marijuana addiction is often the most effective way to get rid of the problem and may require a treatment or rehabilitation program if the user is unable to stop on their own.
